About the Mascoma Lake Association
The objectives of the Mascoma Lake Association are to protect Lake Mascoma and its environment, to promote the responsible and sustainable enjoyment of the Lake by all its users, and to educate the public on issues related to these objectives.
The Mascoma Lake Association (MLA) was founded in 1923 with a simple mission: “to promote neighborliness and to inspect lakefront properties in the winter months.” At the time, Mascoma Lake was primarily home to seasonal “camps” owned by area residents. Neighbors looked after one another’s properties during the winter and gathered for occasional social events during the summer.
While the lake and its community have evolved considerably over the past century, the spirit of neighborliness that inspired the MLA’s founding remains at the heart of our organization.
Today, the Mascoma Lake Association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing Mascoma Lake and the community that surrounds it. Membership is open to anyone who cares about the lake and enjoys its many recreational, environmental, and community benefits.
Our programs are funded through annual membership dues, corporate sponsorships and generous donations, and carried out through the dedication of our volunteers. From water quality monitoring and invasive species management to shoreline cleanups, educational initiatives, the annual summer boat parade, and community gatherings, our work is made possible by people who generously share their time, talents, and passion for Mascoma Lake.
At its core, the MLA is a community of people who love Mascoma Lake and believe in working together to protect it for generations to come. We are committed to environmental stewardship, responsible recreation, community connection, and public education.
